I am addicted to playing online poker. I am a losing player.

For a while, I kidded myself about how much money I was losing. The truth is, it was lots and there's no way I can carry on. Sometime I will chart my patterns of loss in the last two years.

But just to summarise.

I play at Krpto and Pokerstars

I primarily play sngs, mainly shorthanded. $10-20 - though very occasionally a bit more. On krpto, i break even. On Stars, where til recently i played a lot less, i am a bone fide fish. -37% !

I prefer mtts, I LOVE mtts. But in truth i'm rarely in the right mind set to play them well. I can't get motivated to play them to best of my abilities unless the first prize is over a grand (sterling). I have had over a dozen first places with fields of 100+. first prizes have been between £150 and £1600. I have had several other big pay-out final table finishes inc. £7,500 for 2nd in krpto's big sunday night game. Despite all this, mtts are prob where i lose the most money. scrap "despite this" and replace with "because of this" .... basically since i started getting some good mtt results, i've spunking away a lot of money on them.

i play some cash - exclusively plo. dont know why, just feels a bit refreshing. play .1/.2 - .15/.25.

thats it for mo

Dude!

Far out man. You're going through sort of the same thing I did, but you're just throwing away the cash!

I started playing in micro limit cash games and small sit and goes and soon had burnt $100. So what you say. Well my thinking is that 90% of players give their money to 10% of players, and I was definately giving my cash away. I went from 100 to 30 back to 130 then down to zero and made a pact with myself I would never place a deposit into a poker room until I had made that 100 back.

I started playing freerolls. A lot of them, obsessively. Eventually, I came third in a freeroll, took a $5 prize and promptly lost it all.

Now I had a moment of thought, where I vowed I would not give up and I would eventually get my $100 back without re depositing.

Well I came 8th and 10th recently in some freerolls and changed 3.50 into 30 so far. How? I read Super System!

These ammounts might be small change but they are symbollic, I am inching towards my 100 target but more importantly I am going up slowly rather than plummeting down with enthusiasm.

Just read some good books on poker, stop checking and calling and start getting aggressive (with a hand to start with) and just be patient. Learn to love learning about the game and playing well not winning (or losing) massive pots and you'll be a much more satisfied player. I guarantee I will never be back at zero because I play too well, never risk my entire bankroll (or even large chunks of it) and play within my limits.

More importantly... I play cash games. You dont say how you're going on the cash games, just that you lose a lot on the tourneys. Dude, everyone loses on the tourneys most of the time, some people are obviously very good at them but they are the worlds best, dont try to do what they do. Just build your bankroll in the cash games and realise luck is a much bigger factor in a MTT than it is at a cash game.

Good luck dude I hope you can learn to play with some intelligence and patience.

My point is I am probably addicted to poker too but I am addicted to learning how to be a better player and to make money by being much, much better than my opponents. These days I can

hey I know what its like being addicted to poker. When i started playing online poker, I played bodog and fulltilt. For some reason I think there rigged. Then I went to pokerstars. I turned $25 to $5,000 in 1 week. I was so happy. I kept thinking to cash all of it out. I end up losing 2 grand and cashed out with 3 grand. Then I went to absolute poker.I turned $80 to $1,000, then lost 500.After that I kept losing, getting rivered even when I get the best hands on the flop. Today I turned $50 to $1,000 in 1 day. I wanted to double up. I ended losing all of it in 2 cash games. Now I feel so bad. This whole year I put 800 dollars in all these pokersites. But I got to keep $3,000 of $8,000 of my winnings.

Some freerolls I win lead to weekly round 2, but i never win.
I guess when your fresh and havent played onine poker at least for 2 weeks, you have more patience. But When you win big, you lose your patience and being cocky. Thats what happened to me.
